Our first Writing Publishing Party was a big success.  Kids published in a variety of ways and we learned so much from each other.  30 more school days until our next one! A link to your child's writing is below.

Getting to Know You
Cereal Box Project
This project was an integration of writing, math, art, and technology.  Students created rough drafts of everything, edited, then made final copies.  They gave speeches about themselves using a green screen and made a commercial for their cereal using Adobe Spark Video.  They put everything together onto an Adobe Spark Page to showcase their complete project.  Kids were able to access all of the multiple intelligences to produce a project that is unique and creative. I am so proud of their effort.

I know that giving kids a lot of opportunities to do art in school is important.  The benefits of art education are pretty amazing.  It opens possibilities for children to express themselves, to persevere, to focus and make decisions, work on fine motor skills, to have fun, be creative, and so on.

This project was inspired by Monet's still life paintings.  It was a balance of following a process, understanding how colors work together, and being open to trying something new.  I think they turned out incredible!

Welcome to Third Grade

Welcome to Third Grade!

Hello Third Graders!

I hope you have had a great summer and have gotten lots of rest because this school year is going to be a GROWING year for you! You have so much knowledge to gain and so many ideas to share. We are going to have an amazing year together!

Our classroom blog is a place for you and your family to come for pictures and information on things we do in class, reminders and due dates, important calendar dates, and resources that connect to our learning.  I do my best to update the blog each week.

There are a few items you will need to prepare:
1.  Please bring an empty cereal box sometime during the 2 weeks of school.
2.  Please have your parents complete their “homework” assignment,"In a Million Words or Less" by the end of September.  Parents click the link at the bottom of this letter for more information.
3.  Please bring in or email me a family picture and picture of you doing something fun this summer.

Enjoy your last few days of summer! I am looking forward to seeing you Thursday, August 23rd from 4:30-5:30 pm at the Ice Cream Social & Supply Drop Off or on Monday, August 27th, the first day of school!

Love,
Mrs. Hiatt

P.S. If any parents are looking for a really fun time, the third grade teachers would love some help with photocopying on Friday, August 24. If you’re available, please email us and let us know, thank you!
